LEED is an internationally recognized green building certification system, providing third-party verification that a building or community was designed and built using strategies aimed at improving performance across all the metrics that matter most: energy savings, water efficiency, CO2 emissions reduction, improved indoor environmental quality, and stewardship of resources and sensitivity to their impacts.

Developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), LEED provides building owners and operators a concise framework for identifying and implementing practical and measurable green building design, construction, operations and maintenance solutions.

LEED is flexible enough to apply to all building types – commercial as well as residential. It works throughout the building lifecycle – design and construction, operations and maintenance, tenant fitout, and significant retrofit. And LEED for Neighborhood Development extends the benefits of LEED beyond the building footprint into the neighborhood it serves.

The LEED Professional Accreditation program is now managed by the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI).

LEED Professional Accreditation distinguishes building professionals with the knowledge and skills to successfully steward the LEED certification process. LEED Accredited Professionals (LEED APs) have demonstrated a thorough understanding of green building practices and principles and the LEED Rating System.

The Douglas Company is a proven performer in the Senior Living/Healthcare, Affordable Housing, Multi-Family, Hotel, Retail and Commercial construction markets. The Douglas Company is ranked 71st among private construction companies in the United States on The Inc. 5,000 Fastest Growing* list. Here are a few reasons why:

  • Nine leading employees are LEED AP
  • Over the past five years, more than 85% of their clients have utilized the pre-development planning services, including green building analysis
  • They have already built in 26 states…and counting.
  • They have built over 5,000 HUD financed units.

The Douglas Company can assist you through the decision and implementation process of sustainable building. With the assistance of their LEED AP Associates, they assist their clients to explore the necessary design requirements and product selections to help achieve a minimum impact on the environment while maximizing energy cost savings. As each project has different nuances and objectives, an individualized approach is taken to ensure the applicable number of LEED requirements are met in a cost effective manner.

In 2008, administration of the Professional Accreditation program transitioned to the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI). The Green Building Certification Institute, established with the support of the U.S. Green Building Council, handles exam development and delivery to allow for objective, balanced management of the credentialing program.
