The Douglas Cares Program: Gives Back to Local Families During the Holidays

The Douglas Company’s Adopt-a-Family Gift Drive makes the holidays brighter for area families unable to buy essentials and gifts this holiday season. The holidays can be a challenging time of year for families and children who have been struggling.

The Douglas Company and their associates are doing their part to change this for some families in partnership with Family House to make a difference in the community by “adopting” local families for the holiday season and providing them with gifts and meals.

The Douglas Company Donates to Nightingales Harvest for Local Food Donation

The Douglas Company, a General Contractor in Holland, Ohio, recently donated $2,100 in food donations to the Nightingales Harvest food pantry in Toledo, Ohio. The donation was made in honor of Brian McCarthy, a well-loved executive of the company who lost his battle with cancer this year.

This year the annual food drive was conducted virtually through team member's monetary donations. The donations allowed us to purchase in bulk the most-needed food items that will soon find their way into the kitchens of Toledo-area cancer patients and their families.

The Douglas Company Team Spreads Some Holiday Cheer

The Douglas Company team volunteered at Family House over the holidays to bring a little holiday cheer. The day started off doing a holiday craft with the children to give their parents for Christmas, followed by a nacho bar for approximately 65 residents and a fun-filled movie party, including popcorn, candy bags, and hot cocoa to wrap up our day.

Family House is a homeless shelter that focuses on keeping families together during their time of need. The goal of Family House is to help families in their time of crisis find permanent housing, help them regain control over their lives, and reclaim their independence through education, community resources, and compassion.  Family Houses serves more than 700 families annually in Northwest Ohio.

2019 The Douglas Company Annual Food Drive

The Douglas Company held its 2nd annual food drive, collecting 1,580 pounds of nonperishable food and 2,776 lbs. of water, which we had the pleasure of donating to support Providence Lutheran Church’s Food Pantry in Holland, Ohio.

The Douglas Company Partners with The Family House for Local Food Donation

Right before the Christmas holiday, the employees of The Douglas Company donated a heaping 1,860 pounds of non-perishable food and cleaning items to The Family House of Toledo. The Douglas Company initiated a food drive challenge amongst the departments for the campaign, “It has been to get rather competitive around here, and the challenge fit our group well,” said Andrew Sokol, Estimator at The Douglas Company.
