Holland, OH – May 7, 2026 – The Douglas Company has broken ground on Silver Birch Columbus, a new affordable assisted living community being developed for client Vermilion Development. This marks the third Silver Birch community TDC is building for Vermilion, following the starts of Silver Birch Amherst and Silver Birch Canton late last year.
Construction on Silver Birch Columbus, an $18.2 million undertaking, began in early December 2025, and the project is expected to be completed in Spring 2027.
Silver Birch Columbus will replicate the design and resident experience of its sister communities — a three-story, wood-framed building with 120 units spanning approximately 90,138 square feet. As with the other Silver Birch projects, this community will feature a robust suite of amenity spaces and services tailored to senior residents. Amenities will include multiple dining areas, a fitness and physical therapy center, a library, beauty and barber services, flexible activity and community rooms, and thoughtfully planned outdoor spaces such as walking paths, a gazebo, and patios.
Silver Birch Columbus is being financed through the Columbus-Franklin County Finance Authority — a utilization of public resources underscoring Vermilion Development’s commitment to expanding accessible, affordable assisted living options across Ohio.
“We’re honored to partner with Vermilion Development again to deliver Silver Birch Columbus,” said Bruce Douglas, President of The Douglas Company. “Our continued collaboration reflects shared goals — to expand high-quality assisted living options that serve Ohio’s aging population and reinforce the role of thoughtful design, funding partnerships, and community-centered amenities in creating places residents are proud to call home.”
