Holland, OH –– May 11, 2026 –– The Douglas Company has begun construction on Silver Birch of Mason, a new senior living community designed to provide high-quality residential care in a thoughtfully planned, amenity-rich environment. The three-story, 90,662-square-foot facility is scheduled for completion in April 2027.
Developed by Vermilion Development, a Chicago-based senior housing owner and operator, Silver Birch of Mason will feature 120 residential units, including 24 one-bedroom units and 96 studio apartments, along with 71 parking spaces (64 standard and 7 accessible). The project represents a $19.3 million construction contract for The Douglas Company.
Silver Birch of Mason is being designed with a strong focus on sustainability. The owner intends to pursue LEED BD+C and Multifamily Low-Rise Silver certification, in accordance with the rating system developed by Home Innovation Research Labs.
Residents will have access to a wide range of amenities that support wellness, connection, and daily comfort. Planned amenities include outdoor patios, walking paths and recreation areas, a community room, activity kitchen, dining room, private dining and conference room, game room, salon, wellness and fitness areas, puzzle lounge, physical therapy space, laundry rooms, and a TV lounge.

Silver Birch of Mason is the fourth active project The Douglas Company is delivering for Vermilion Development, joining current senior living communities underway in Canton, Amherst, and Columbus, Ohio. The project team also includes WJW Architects of Chicago, who are partnering with The Douglas Company on all Vermilion Development projects, as well as two additional senior living communities currently under construction in Ohio.
