Orlando, FL — September 14, 2026 — The Douglas Company, an industry-leading general contractor specializing in senior living and healthcare construction, is proud to announce the completion of a $2.2 million restoration project at St. Augustine Plantation, a memory care facility in Tallahassee, Florida. The project restored 25 units within the existing facility following extensive damage caused by a tornado.
After a tree fell through the facility’s roof, the affected portion of the building underwent remediation and was stripped back to the studs. The Douglas Company began construction in August 2025, replacing building finishes and MEP trim and completing necessary repairs to restore the damaged areas to working condition. The project scope also included a commercial kitchen and dedicated salon.
Renovating an existing healthcare facility presented several unique challenges for the project team. Working with existing framing and MEP rough-ins required careful coordination throughout construction, with a number of framing repairs and device replacements completed to bring the affected areas up to code. The Douglas Company also assisted during a challenging permitting process by helping locate and engage an architect and working to move the project through the necessary approvals.
During construction, the team also helped identify and resolve an existing water intrusion issue at the facility. After determining that an existing sidewalk was pitched toward the building, the team coordinated its replacement to properly direct water away from the facility and address the source of the issue.

Through proactive problem-solving and coordination, the team successfully restored the tornado-damaged portion of the facility and helped return these spaces to their intended use serving memory care residents.
