The Douglas Company completed Harper’s Station, a 244,400-square-foot luxury senior living community in Gainesville, Virginia, in 2022. The 192-unit, 55+ retirement community offers independent living, assisted living, and memory care apartments along with residential cottage homes, providing residents with a variety of living options in a resort-style setting.
The community consists of a three-story main building and three villa buildings and features an extensive collection of indoor and outdoor amenities. Residents can enjoy a heated indoor swimming pool, grand dining room, coffee shop, bistro, library, salons, fitness center, game room, yoga studio, putting green, exterior fireplace, fire pits, and gazebo. The buildings feature 360-degree architectural treatments incorporating brick and stone veneer, Hardie Board, and decorative metal elements.
Throughout construction, The Douglas Company worked closely with the project team to navigate challenges related to site conditions and material availability. Solutions included lime stabilization that allowed site work to continue through difficult winter conditions, as well as coordination with the design team, suppliers, manufacturers, and local officials to identify alternative materials when specified products became unavailable. These efforts helped keep the project moving while minimizing impacts to cost and schedule.
