Introducing Hunter Woods Apartments — Part of a Dynamic Residential Community

The Douglas Company is proud to have completed Hunter Woods Apartments, a new market-rate multifamily development in La Porte, Indiana. Part of the larger Hunter Woods residential community, which includes single-family homes, townhomes, and apartments, the project adds 32 new apartment units to the growing development.

The $4.6 million project includes two two-story, wood-framed apartment buildings constructed slab-on-grade. Each building contains 16 units, with eight apartments per floor, for a total of 28,324 square feet. The development was completed in partnership with owner Hunter Woods Apartments LLC, also known as the Sloane Avenue Group, and architect Duneland Group, Inc.

Inside, residents enjoy modern finishes including full kitchens with quartz countertops, luxury vinyl plank flooring throughout the living and dining areas, and carpeted bedrooms. The completed apartments provide new residential options for the La Porte community and received positive feedback from local city and county representatives.

Construction Challenges and Solutions for Hunter Woods Apartments

• Permanent Power: With permanent power posing a significant schedule risk, TDC maintained consistent communication and follow-up with the utility provider to help secure power in time to support an early turnover. The team also strategically resequenced construction activities around the delay, allowing work to continue while protecting completed finishes.
• Design Coordination: Limited details within the construction documents required extensive coordination in the field. TDC worked directly with MEP and finish trades to review conditions, develop solutions, and resolve details before they could create major schedule delays or additional costs for ownership.
• Schedule Resequencing: As utility timing shifted, TDC adjusted the sequence of remaining construction activities to maintain forward progress without compromising completed work. This proactive approach helped the team successfully deliver a quality finished product while supporting the client’s early occupancy goals.
