Building Permits/Inspections

The number of separate permits that now are being required for senior living projects of all types has grown significantly in the last five to ten years. In most municipalities separate permits are required for fire alarm systems, generators, kitchen hoods, wander guard systems, nurse call systems, etc. If one of these permits is missed and not applied for in a timely manner it can have a large effect delaying the completion of most projects. It takes two to three weeks to get permits issued in most communities after they’re applied for and then an inspection can be scheduled of the work the permit covers. In addition to all the new permits that are being required, additional inspections are being required for each of the permits in both the rough and finish.

It is extremely important that the project team thoroughly understands all the local permit requirements and inspections for each project to help prevent delays to the project schedule.
